Castaic is an unincorporated community in the northwest corner of Los Angeles County, set within the Santa Clarita Valley where Interstate 5 climbs toward the Grapevine. The community's name reflects its Chumash and Spanish heritage, and its modern identity is inseparable from the water stored at its doorstep: Castaic Lake, a reservoir formed by Castaic Dam, serves both as a regional water resource and as a major recreation area. With roughly 19,000 residents, Castaic functions as a residential and outdoor-oriented community on the outer edge of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
